Latest News – March 2020 – Coronavirus/COVID-19 Outbreak

As you may be aware, the Coronavirus has reached the island of Ireland. On behalf of all in the school we would remind people to be vigilant but do not panic. To view the statement from the HSE on the matter, please click here:

On a local level, the school will be adhering to DES and HSE procedures and advice as it arrives. Children will urged and advised to take all precautions around washing of hands, coughing, physical contact, etc in the coming days.

If you or any member of the family has been on a visit to any of the infected areas in the last number of weeks or, been in contact with someone who has, please advise the Principal immediately and without delay. The regions affected are: China, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, Iran and four regions in Northern Italy (Lombardy, Veneto, Piedmont and Emilia Ramagna).

Below is some advice on measures one can take to combat the spread of this virus:

It can take up to 14 days for symptoms of Covid-19 (Coronavirus) to show.

Symptoms may include:

  • a cough
  • shortness of breath
  • breathing difficulties
  • fever (high temperature)

 Covid-19 (Coronavirus) can also cause more severe illness, including:

  • pneumonia
  • shortness of breath
  • breathing difficulties
  • fever (high temperature)

Things you can do to protect yourself from getting Covid-19 (Coronavirus) include:

  • wash your hand properly and regularly
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough and sneeze

Wash your hands properly and regularly with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub:

  • after coughing and sneezing
  • after toilet use
  • before eating
  • before and after preparing food
